Developing the Ensemble
Strengthening the internal bonds within an ensemble makes the rehearsal more efficient and produces more artistically-unified performances.
The term ‘ensemble’ is used to describe attributes of performance from simple neatness of execution to that magical sense that a group is performing ‘as one’. This workshop uses research in social psychology to help participants understand how the ‘telepathy’ of ensemble musicianship works and uses practical exercises to put this into practice.
Chamber and choral ensembles of any size
By the end of the workshop, participants will
- Have a greater understanding of what creates a sense of ensemble
- Have experienced the effect that ensemble-building exercises can have on their choral performance
- Have the confidence to adapt and integrate workshop activities into their regular rehearsal
- Introduction of key concepts
- Physical exercises to develop interpersonal coordination
- Listening games to increase aural acuity
- Moderated discussion
- Exploration of how to use these techniques in the choir’s own repertoire
